DU VERNACULAIRE AU DURABLE, UN ÉTAT DES LIEUX DU PATRIMOINE ARCHITECTURAL À ADRAR

Abstract

 Scientific research is increasingly integrating into its folds the concept of sustainable development and considering new perspectives of a progress respectful of the environment. Meanwhile, architecture studies in Algeria remain reluctant to join in this progress as the issue of architectural identity has yet to be resolved. This paper examines the topic of architectural heritage in Algeria through the example of the town of Adrar as the latter gradually loses its ancient architectural heritage. Adrar is a town whose architecture is inspired directly from the very nature that saw it come to life. The architecture of this town offers a clear typo-morphological vision, which allows the distinction of different juxtaposed construction types throughout its history. This paper will include the local architecture, which belongs to the traditional category and in which local materials have been used in the past to produce building with undeniable environmental friendly properties. We will attempt to demonstrate that this type of architecture is part of the larger  ield of vernacular architecture, which is no other than a modern alternative for sustainable architecture .
