Abstract

Adiantum Capillus-veneris L. and Tamarix gallica L. are plants belonging to the family of Adiantaceae and that of Tamaricaceae respectively. They are coming from two different regions such as Boumerdès and Bordj Bou Arrirdj. Our work consists on phytochemical characterization, extraction of phenolic compounds using two solvents (water and methanol) and evaluation of two biological activities (antioxidant and anti-inflammatory).

The phytochemical study of the aerial part of Adiantum capillus-veneris L. and the leaves of Tamarix gallica L. revealed the presence of various secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, tannins, leucoanthocyanins, glycosides, cardiac glycosides and reducing compounds. The aqueous extraction yields of polyphenols from Adiantum capillus-veneris L. and Tamarix gallica L. is corresponded to 13,98% and 20,61% respectively, whereas the methanolic extractions yields  are in order of 9,15% and 14,81% respectively. In addition, the evaluation of the antioxidant activity of the methanolic extract using the DPPH method gave an important antioxidant power for the two studied plants Adiantum and Tamarax with ICs50 of 0,280 mg / ml and 0,315 mg / ml respectively. Moreover, the infusion of both Adiantum and Tamarax plants showed a good anti-inflammatory activity corresponding to percentages inhibition of edema of 77, 27% and 64, 07% respectively.

Both plants have interesting biological effects, they can be used in pharmaceutical industries.
